Investing together in Africa’s future: opportunities for German-African economic cooperation
The CDU/CSU parliamentary group organized an expert discussion concerning the German-African economic cooperation in the German Bundestag, Reichstag Building (Berlin) on 24. September 2014. At this high-level dialogue the CDU/CSU parliamentary group discussed with African partners what contribution to sustainable economic development can be made by German and European enterprises and by German and European foreign trade policy. This dialogue is one of a series of panel discussions on various key issues related to the African continent.
The expert discussion was opened by the vice chairman Dr. Michael Fuchs and S.E. Houadja Léon Kacou Adom(Ambassador of the republic Côte d'Ivoire). To introduce the panel discussion Prof. Dr. Robert Kappel (economist and political scientist at GIGA, German Institute of Global and Area Studies) hold a presentation about the economic development in Africa up to 2030 and associated political parameters, opportunities and challenges. Within the scope of this panel discussion various business representatives such as Dipl.-Ing. Klaus Rollenhagen (GAUFF GmbH & Co. Engineering KG), Dr. Stefan Mair (member of the general management board of the voice of German industry) and political actors such as S. E. Jean-Claude Kibala (Minister of Public Service of the Democratic Republic of Congo) and Günter Nooke (G8-Africa Representative of the Federal Chancellor) debated on economic development and economic cooperation in Africa.
During this event, Patrick Wirz, strategic project manager of ESEFA at the OVGU, and two of his employees took the chance to get a closer look at cooperation between Germany and Africa not only on the economic but also on the educational level.
